Love was in the air for Winchester Consort’s concert!
“Truly Amazing! We feel so privileged to have enjoyed your wonderful voices. And in such surroundings! I was moved to tears – it was so good. The only way you could have improved it was to sing more!” (Audience comments)
“Brilliant event. Superb singers and a wonderful blend of music.”
A delightful concert by Winchester Consort took place in St John’s Church on Sunday 18th February 2024. Attended by some 75 people, the church felt packed for Winchester Consort’s first ever visit to St John’s. Winchester Consort was created to create opportunities for singers to work with invited guest directors (who have included Bob Chilcott, Patrick Hawes, David Hill, Martin Neary, Barry Rose and many more!). Performing with from eight to 40 singers the Consort is known for its performances of sincere and contemplative music in both concert and liturgical settings as well as programmes of lighter music.
“AMAZING! Beautifully crafted programme only surpassed by wonderful singing.”
“The evening was very welcoming, well organised and uplifting – we thoroughly enjoyed it. Something for everyone. Thank you.”
The concert in St John’s, entitled ‘Upon your Heart’ - involved 10 singers and organist and accompanist, Paul Wright, and was conducted from within the group by Steve Dean. The programme was a wonderful combination of the liturgical and the light – all linked by the theme of love. Aimed to celebrate St Valentine’s Day, the programme included works by MacMillan, Whitacre, Eleanor Daley, Philip Wilby, Faure and Rutter, and concluded with lighter music and a range of pieces from Jerome Kern to Billy Joel and Cole Porter.
“An outstanding concert! Beautiful voices of the choir enhanced by the lovely church acoustics.”
“Beautiful church with exquisite stone carvings (Altar and Pulpit)”
“A really beautiful and well-kept church.”
“An amazing performance bringing together the liturgical music with film music. Well done!”
